In school, Reading takes place in a variety of different ways. Reading is about knowing how to read (phonics work) and also about understanding what has been read (comprehension). Both are covered extensively in school.
We use Guided Reading (a whole class teaching session, followed by group tasks, eg, 6 children sharing one text with an adult), Shared Reading (a big book or screen book is read as a large group and aspects of reading are shared and discussed), one to one reading (generally with one of our trained adult volunteers or students in school) and also as part of other curriculum work.
Your child has a home reader book which is colour coded by the class teacher. Please hear your child read daily. also encourage your child to read a variety of materials, a link on this page will take you to a site with many "e books" to share, using Bug Club is an effective way to support this.
