Music

At our school, we use GetSet4Music to deliver an engaging and progressive music curriculum from Nursery to Year 6. Our lessons are carefully planned so that children build their musical knowledge and skills year-on-year, in line with the 2014 National Curriculum for Music.

What children learn in music

Children have opportunities to:

  • Listen to and appraise a wide range of music
  • Sing with confidence and expression
  • Compose and create their own music
  • Perform to an audience
  • Learn about pulse, rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamics and structure

Our curriculum is designed to help children enjoy music, develop confidence and creativity, and gain an understanding of different musical styles and traditions.

Music beyond the classroom

Music is an important part of our school life. Children take part in:

  • Weekly alternating phase singing assemblies
  • A new school choir, led by our Headteacher
  • Half-termly class assemblies, where classes share what they have learnt during their music unit and perform to the school and their parents

These experiences help children to build confidence, work together and celebrate their musical learning.

Our aim

We want every child to enjoy music and feel successful in it. Through GetSet4Music, children develop the skills, knowledge and appreciation they need to become confident musicians.
