At our school, we use the GetSet4 PE curriculum to deliver high-quality physical education from Nursery through to Year 6. Our PE curriculum is designed to help every child develop the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to enjoy physical activity, work with others and lead a healthy, active lifestyle.
Our PE curriculum provides a broad, balanced and progressive programme that helps children build physical skills, confidence and enjoyment from the Early Years through to Year 6. Using the GetSet4 PE curriculum, we ensure that pupils experience high-quality teaching, clear progression and opportunities to succeed in a wide range of physical activities.
Our vision for PE
Through PE, we aim to:
- Develop physical confidence, competence and control
- Encourage children to enjoy being active
- Build teamwork, resilience and fair play
- Promote healthy lifestyles and an understanding of the importance of exercise
- Provide opportunities for children to experience a broad range of sports and movement activities
Curriculum progression
Our PE curriculum is carefully sequenced so that children build on prior learning each year. In the Early Years, children begin with foundational movement experiences through Introduction to PE and Fundamentals, helping them develop coordination, balance, spatial awareness and an understanding of how to move safely and sensibly.
In Key Stage 1, children continue to strengthen their core movement skills through units such as Fundamentals, Fitness, Yoga, Gymnastics, Dance, Ball Skills, Sending and Receiving, Athletics and Invasion Games. These units help children improve their agility, balance, coordination and basic game play.
In Lower and Upper Key Stage 2, children experience a wider range of activities including OAA, Dodgeball, Handball, Rugby, Tennis, Rounders, Football, Swimming, Athletics, Fitness, Yoga, Dance and Gymnastics. As they progress, children refine their techniques, apply tactics, work collaboratively and develop leadership, teamwork and sportsmanship.
